Professor Patricia Aufderheide is visiting DMRC during 2017 (Feb-June) as part of a Fulbright Senior Fellowship examining the lively, often contentious public debate around copyright reform. Patricia is Professor of Communication Studies in the School of Communication at American University in Washington, D.C.
Her research extends a decade-long exploration of creative practice in relation to copyright knowledge. Aufderheide is here in Australia as principal investigator for a comparative study that includes a survey and interviews with Australian creators, including authors, musicians and filmmakers. Aufderheide’s study, conducted with QUT scholars Stuart Cunningham, Nicolas Suzor and Kylie Pappalardo, will illuminate the choices creators make when they need to incorporate copyright material into their own new work. This research will be helpful in informing policy discussion.
