Jyi Lawton is a descendant of the Bidjara people in Central Queensland and Mackenzie clan from the northwest highlands of Scotland. Jyi has undertaken tertiary study across a range of areas in Architectural Design, Law and Justice and Business. He holds a Bachelor of Criminology through the Queensland University of Technology and a recent graduate of the Murra Indigenous Masterclass through Melbourne Business School.
Jyi is an award winning artist and the previous founder of Yimbana, a creative design and consultancy service, completing major projects with; leading global corporate firms, State Government, not for profit organisations and Queensland Rugby League as the co-designer of the first Indigenous Queensland Maroons jersey. He has served as a board member on the Queensland University of Technology Alumni Board and a founding board member of the Youth Justice First Nations Action Board.
Jyi has held previous positions across State and Federal Government in the Department of Premier and Cabinet, Department of Youth Justice, and more recently Indigenous Business Australia as a senior member of the Enterprises, Business Solutions and Engagement and Development programs. He has spoken nationally on Indigenous Justice and Indigenous Entrepreneurship. Jyi is currently the Senior Manager of the Industry Engagement Team at Indigenous Business Australia.
