Design Fabrication

The Design Fabrication Service Program will provide a program of services that are linked with the J Block Maker Space located on QUT’s Gardens Point Campus. The current J Block workshop houses a comprehensive range of fabrication technologies from 3D printers, CNC, wood working and metal milling machinery. The workshop is run by a staff team with a wide range of design and fabrication expertise. There are three programs available as fabrication services, depending on the requirements of the client:

  • a maker space program, allowing for space and access to the workshop
This program provides opportunity for early stage development projects through access to equipment and software.
  • a fabricator program, allowing for space as well as expertise
This program provides the same access as above in conjunction with fabrication and design advice. In particular, this program includes connections with our design incubation partner Creative Enterprise Australia (CEA).
  • a partner program, allowing space, expertise, and ongoing collaborative knowledge transfer agreements
This program would usually take the form of a commercial contract and provides significant ongoing collaborative opportunities.

Utilising the ongoing development of expertise and experience in the QUT Design Lab, these services are designed to provide clients with a structured yet customisable experience to support the development of innovative design products.
