A partnership with the Children’s Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service.
This project focused on the development and implementation of an organisation-wide co-design strategy and suite of digital resources for Children’s Health Queensland Hospital (CHQ) and Health Service. It directly responds to demands in the health sector to have access to agile resources and training to support authentic and meaningful consumer and staff engagement.
The project entailed us applying an action research methodology, where we worked within CHQ and lead two initial co-design projects alongside staff, consumers and other stakeholder groups.
Action Research Project 1
This project focused on improving service delivery for young people with eating disorders, using co-design methods to generate strategies based on young people’s perspectives and lived experience. We developed a new trauma-informed research method, Persona-led Co-design, and delivered a series of now applied recommendations and produced a podcast “In Full Bloom” – presented by young people, for young people who may be affected by an eating disorder.
Action Research Project 2
This project was led by Associate Professor Jenna Gillett-Swan (QUT Centre for Inclusive Education), involved co-designing the infrastructure and service delivery for a future Community Hub at Dakabin High School with students. This Hub is now designed and currently being constructed.
CHQ Co-design Strategy & Learning System Project
Following this action-led engagement, a formal co-design process occurred across the entirety of the organisation, with 17 representatives from all divisions forming a co-design advisory group that worked on the project. Through a series of co-design workshops, a customised strategy model and series of interactive digital resources were developed to support co-design project implementation across all organisational contexts. Included in these resources is the CHQ Co-design Compass, an interactive project planning tool that is now being user-tested and evaluated as it is applied across the organisation. This innovative learning tool is built around project development and a bespoke micro-learning process.
