Architects & Robots working together – are cobots the answer?
This ADARG session will begin with a context setting presentation, given by Dr Glenda Caldwell, to set the tone for group discussions related to the points below. Then groups will be formed to generate lively discussion, then group presentations that we hope will produce ideas and the direction of the path ahead.
Dr Caldwell will put forward three propositions:
- Will robots be integral to architectural practice as we know it?
- Can you envision an architectural future where imagined design ideas will be effortlessly translated into a built form?
- What would that mean for the role of the architect? What would be the role of the robot?
Glenda is an Associate Professor in Architecture, and the Academic Lead Researcher in the School of Architecture and Built Environment, Faculty of Engineering at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT).
She is an architecture and design scholar with nationally and internationally recognised expertise in physical, digital, and robotic fabrication, leading Industry 4.0 innovation through human-centred research in design robotics and media architecture. Glenda is a Design Lead at the Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing (ARM) Hub.
Glenda is also a co-leader of the QUT Design Lab’s Design Robotics and Digital Fabrication Program and the author of numerous publications in the areas of media architecture, urban informatics, and design robotics.
