Alice Payne represented QUT at the National Textile Waste Roundtable in Canberra on May 26, hosted by Ministers Ley and Evans, and was a signatory to the final communique. The purpose of the event was to discuss product stewardship approaches for tackling the ~780,000 tonnes of textiles, leather and rubber waste going to landfill each year.
Beforehand, a range of QUT textile research projects from researchers in Centre for a Waste Free World, the TextileR research group, and QUT Design Lab were exhibited at the Mural Hall, Parliament House in Canberra in a Clothing Waste Exhibition showcasing industry and research innovation for recycling clothing textiles for reuse and alternate use. The exhibition was viewed by MPs, industry, ministers, department advisors, and media.
