Social innovation and creative entrepreneurship are hot topics. Yet, ideas and themes that led to these concepts can easily be traced back to the 1960s and even earlier. Today, they have emerged from their niche existence at the fringe of entrepreneurship and are very much being sought after by governments, industry, and civil society. Seen both as a new economic growth engine as well as a broader means to create social value, they have found their way into higher education and the creative tech start-up sector as well.
The Kaospilot business and design school has been at the forefront to help people carve out a future as creative entrepreneurs and social innovators for more than 25 years – placing emphasis on personal motivation, strengths and relationships as well as supporting a critical debate around democracy, participation, and engagement in society.
This talk will offer cases to illuminate three points. First, how people can be trained to become entrepreneurs and leaders in a different way than offered by most other higher education institutions. Second, how these cases have gone about solving real world problems in their endeavours. Third, insights into how social innovation also affects more traditional commercial strategies and particular challenges in Scandinavian welfare states are discussed, too.
