On 9-10 Feb, 2018, QUT Design Lab’s Natalie Wright and Andrew Scott and Dr Nick Kelly from Faculty of Education hosted the QUT Design Teachers Studio 2018, supported by others from the School of Design.
80 high school teachers participated in this two-day programme in preparation for the 2019 introduction of the new QCAA senior Design Syllabus. Teachers from as far north as Mossman (north of Cairns) participated in a design studio exercise under the guidance of experienced School of Design tutors from architecture, interior design, industrial design, and fashion. Experienced QUT design teachers delivered case studies showcasing examples of First Year student design projects, student work and assessment criteria. The workshop concluded on day 2 with an expert panel discussing the challenges and opportunities of the new Design syllabus.
This event has significant impact for our future core “clients” including teachers and high school students, and positions QUT Design Lab research in design-led educational innovation for 21st century lifelong learning as a core focus.
