Associate Professor Evonne Miller, Director of the QUT Design Lab, invites you to join us for the QUT opening of “Living in Aged Care: A photographic exhibition of laughter, loss and leisure”.
Thursday 28 September, 4.30 for 5pm start
QUT Kelvin Grove campus, Z9 Building, Level 1
Twenty older residents photographed their daily lives (the highlights and lowlights) of life in one Brisbane aged care facility. As well as highlighting cherished interactions and activities with friends, family and staff [laughter and leisure], the photographs poignantly capture the changes, challenges and resilience of older age – the increasing awareness of life’s fragility and resident’s experience of illness, dying and grief [loss]. The diverse range of images, and residents’ stories, provides rare and intimate insight into the often-private world of aged care.
Alongside resident’s photographs and poems, the exhibition also includes images from staff, the research team and QUT PhD student/ documentary photographer Tricia King. The exhibition is a key outcome of an Australian Research Council and Ballycara funded project, led by QUT Associate Professor Evonne Miller, Professor Laurie Buys and Research Fellow Geraldine Donoghue. Complimentary light refreshments will be provided at the opening, with the exhibition open for viewing at Z9 till 15 October.
