The SEQ Drama Research Group invites all QUT, UQ, USQ, USC, and Griffith drama researchers – and all interested local industry practitioners – to join us for an afternoon discussing current trends in actor training research.
5pm Friday 10th May 2019 at QUT Kelvin Grove campus. RSVP here.
The event will begin with a talk from visiting Fullbright Fellow Dr Peter Zazzali.
Dr Peter Zazzali is a 2019 Fulbright Fellow, currently based at Toi Whakaari / The NZ Drama School, building on his comparative analysis of how US training programs prepare actors for industry, by investigating actor training programs in other Anglophone countries.
Following this, local drama researchers will give two shorter presentations, updating us on research projects currently underway here in Brisbane, to spark discussion about trends in research in actor training globally:
- Dr Jo Loth (University of the Sunshine Coast)
- Dr Jeremy Neideck (Queensland University of Technology)
- Dr Rob Pensalfini (University of Queensland) – Effortless energy: Exploring potential synergies between Suzuki Actor Training and the Linklater Voice methodolog
- Trevor Jones (Griffith University) Louder Than Words: A text-first approach to singing in musical theatre”
Upon conclusion of the presentations, there will be drinks, nibbles, and a chance to talk about issues in the film and screen acting industries today, and how we as teachers and researchers are contributing to addressing these issues.
