The Creative Lab warmly invites you to join us to hear an artist talk by Ken + Julia Yonetani.
Date: Tuesday 26 March, 4.30-5.30pm
Location: Z9-607 QUT Kelvin Grove
Ken + Julia Yonetani are a collaborative artist duo. They live and work in Australia and Kyoto, Japan, where they have an organic farm. Their work has attracted attention for its combination of unusual materials and dramatic beauty, and for tying historical connections with contemporary environmental issues in work that is both conceptually and visually compelling.
Since their first collaboration in 2009, they have shown in major galleries across Australia and in North America, Asia and Europe, including at Mori Art Museum, Tokyo (2019), the Armory Show, New York (2018), Mizuma Gallery Tokyo (2017), Mizuma Gallery Singapore (2016), and the National Gallery of Australia (2015). Other venues include the Honolulu Biennale, Bildmuseet Museum and Malmo Art Museum in Sweden, Singapore Biennale, Abbaye de Maubuisson in France, Ibaraki Kenpoku Art Festival in Japan, the Art Gallery of NSW and the Art Gallery of South Australia. They have undertaken residencies in New York (ISCP), Finland, Portugal, Germany, Australia and Japan. In 2009 Ken was part of the Australian representation at the Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art.
Currently they are collaborating with QUT scientists on a new project entitled “Super-Human: visualizing the hidden ecosystem inside us,” funded by the Australian Council for the Arts. They will be discussing this project in the context of their work to date.
