We aim to investigate if giving medicinal cannabis (MC) to children receiving palliative care for advanced cancer, improves their symptoms. A randomised controlled trial will assess the effectiveness, safe doses and side-effects of two (MC) products. We will also ask children and parents about their views on MC cannabis use. This study will contribute to the limited evidence around the role and safe use of MC in children, which can be used to inform future clinical trials.
This study will provide a vital first step in developing the highest level of research evidence around the use of cannabis-based medicines in paediatric palliative care, by providing the foundation on which larger and more technical clinical trials could be built.
