Achieving Recovery after Cancer: Health and Wellbeing for Adolescents and Young Adults (ARCHWAY)

Project dates: 01/07/2018 – 01/02/2019

Within the Australian healthcare system, the unique needs of young people who have experienced cancer are often not met. Cancer treatment is an intensive time, when necessarily the focus of health services is on treating the disease. When treatment ends, young people report feeling unprepared, concerned about managing their ongoing health needs, and uncertain about relationships, education, employment and plans for the future. Traditional models of care during and after cancer treatment do not address these problems. This project will use surveys and interviews to identify unmet physical and psychological needs, from the perspectives of young people with cancer. We aim to identify the optimal components and features of a wellness program and investigate the acceptability of a nurse-led program from patient and healthcare provider perspectives.
