Cognitive Science investigates how different views of cognition provide insight into how humans interact with information in digital environments of increasing complexity and sophistication.

We adopt a holistic, systems-oriented perspective which foregrounds human cognition and information interactions in order to advance the understanding, design, and applications of information systems in the modern technology-rich world.

We research:

  • Quantum Cognition to model how humans interact with information, how they form beliefs, and make decisions.
  • Reflexivity to understand how people make sense of their experiences and learn from them.

We apply our research to promote trusted interactions between humans and AI and develop analytic technologies to enhance the learning experiences of humans.

We teach:

We teach how humans make information-based decisions (IFN521) and analyse data (IAB303 & IFN619), and how to design effective human-AI interactions (IFN623).

Our people:

We are a team with diverse backgrounds who greatly value creativity.

We aim to transform established thinking about what information systems are, how humans interact with them, and the ways humans make sense of information.
