Role in the Centre
Dr Sarina Sarina is an early-to-mid career researcher in physical chemistry. Within QUT’s Centre for Materials Science, Sarina contributes research programs that inlcude plasmonic nanoparticle-based photocatalytic selective synthesis, and is mainly interested in methods to increase the light absorption of metals by structure change, morphology, investigating molecule adsorption/desorption behavior on metal surface in photocatalytic process, understanding the mechanism of light-surface-molecule interaction in heterogeneous catalytic reaction by in situ spectrometry techniques. Sarina’s research also develops nanostructured sorbent materials for environment application.
Sarina is an ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher (DECRA) Fellow and Lecturer in School of Chemistry and Physics, QUT since 2019 and an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow (2014). Sarina was awarded her PhD in November 2013 from QUT, with winning “QUT Outstanding Doctoral Thesis”. She has extensive research experience in plasmonic photocatalysts and their application in selective organic synthesis. She has also established excellent international and national collaborations with highly recognised experts in related fields (ANSTO and SCK-CEN Belgium). Her current research is focussed on the impact of irradiation wavelength on the molecule selectivity in the catalytic organic synthesis, which involves cross-disciplinary research knowledge of optical physics, surface chemistry and organic synthesis chemistry.
