Role in the Centre

Hafizah has materials science research interests in the analysis and design of steel and composite structures, strengthening of structures, structural fire engineering and fire protection materials. She has recently joined QUT’s Centre for Materials Science and is continuing to explore specific research areas to contribute to the centre.

Short Biography

Upon completion of her PhD at Imperial College London in 2005, Hafizah started her career as a Lecturer at the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Malaya, Malaysia. Then, she was promoted as a Senior Lecturer and an Associate Professor in 2007 and 2013, respectively. She moved to the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering, QUT in January 2020 and joined a strong team in Structural Engineering at QUT. For the past 14 years, she has developed an excellent research record by leading several research projects funded by the Government of Malaysia. Her passion for technological advancement in the field of steel, composite and precast structures, strengthening of structural members with fibre reinforced polymers, development and characterization of fire protection materials have been manifested through more than 130 publications in top tier journals and conference proceedings. Her expertise in structural engineering and construction materials has been globally visible with the current H­-index of 28 and citations of more than 1800 (Google Scholar). She is a Professional Engineer under the Board of Engineers Malaysia.
