In 2016, Yoel Francisco Garcia Marin graduated from Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M), in Madrid, Spain with a Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering, with specialisation in Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine. In the following year, Yoel graduated from UC3M with a Master of Management, with speciality in the Development of Biomedical Technologies.

These accumulative studies inspired Yoel to develop a program which used an algorithm to quantitatively detect glaucoma biomarkers from Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) images.

During the years of 2017 through to 2019, Yoel worked as a Research Engineer in the Human Factors Department of the Biomechanics Institute of Valencia, in Valencia, Spain. During this period of time, Yoel embraced further postgraduate coursework studies and graduated from the EAE Business School of Barcelona with a Master of Business Administration.

In September 2019, Yoel commenced full-time doctorate research studies in a PhD program at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT).  Yoel’s PhD research is focusing on the application of deep learning fields to OCT images, and is being completed with the principal supervision of QUT Senior Research Fellow, Dr David Alonso-Caneiro.
