Catherine Foster is a Research Laboratory Coordinator for the QUT Contact Lens and Visual Optics Laboratory (CLVOL). She has performed the work tasks and responsibilities of a laboratory manager since 2014. In 2012 and 2013, Catherine worked in other research administrator roles for CLVOL. During the years, 2002 to 2011, Catherine was principally employed as a School Administration Officer for the Head of School, Optometry.
Catherine graduated with a Diploma in Teaching (Preschool and Primary) from BCAE in 1984. She was employed by Queensland Education during the years, 1985 to 1986. In 1987, Catherine gained employment as an administrative clerk in the Enrolments Office of the Queensland Institute of Technology (QIT) in the Brisbane inner-city. At the commencement of 1988, Catherine secured employment as a Student Fees Officer in QIT’s Department of Student Administration. In 1989, Catherine witnessed QIT adopt university status and become known as the Queensland University of Technology (QUT). During the following year of 1990, Catherine was part of the university’s amalgamation with the Brisbane College of Advanced Education (BCAE). During 1991, Catherine relocated campus to Kelvin Grove and worked for the following 9 years in various roles within Student Fees administration.
Catherine has worked with the university for nearly 3 decades and has acquired comprehensive work experience, expertise and knowledge in the areas of education, student administration and research. In 2016, Catherine received her “25 Years’ Service” certificate accolade.
Catherine’s primary role as a laboratory manager for CLVOL is to ensure the optimum operation of the lab on a day-to-day basis. She provides required support to research projects and study investigations undertaken by CLVOL staff and students, together with delivering support and expertise in project management, asset procurement, HDR student administration, financial planning, human resource management and workplace health and safety.
