American Academy of Optometry Foundation Grant Supporting Pre-Myopic Children Research

QUT Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Dr Rohan Hughes’ research project is titled, “Characteristics Associated with Eye Growth in Pre-Myopic Children”. Dr Hughes will be joined by fellow QUT academics and researchers, Dr Emily Pieterse, Professor Steve Vincent and Professor Scott Read, in undertaking his myopia children’s research. Myopia, also known as shortsightedness, is expected to increase significantly by the year 2050. This is supported by current trends which show a greater number of children are spending increased times indoors watching screens, and far less time outdoors undertaking physical activity.

Dr Hughes has received funding of $397,073 USD from the American Academy of Optometry Foundation to support his research throughout 2025, 2026 and 2027. We wish him well with his research!
