The 2024 International Myopia Conference (IMC) was held in Sanya, Hainan, China, from 24 September 2024 to 28 September 2024. This international meeting was well attended from more than 1000 researchers, academics clinicians and industry staff, from more than 40 different countries. Exciting and pioneering myopia research and myopia treatments were presented. More than 80 academic presentations were delivered, and more than 400 posters were on display throughout the meeting.

QUT’s Contact lens and Visual Optics Laboratory (CLVOL) was represented by Professor Michael Collins and Dr Rohan Hughes. Michael was an invited speaker and delivered a symposium talk, titled ‘Novel optical ideas for myopia management‘ on Day 3 of the meeting. Dr Ranjay Chakraborty (a former CLVOL member and QUT PhD Graduate) delivered a talk about the ‘Use of cyan light as a potential intervention against myopia‘, immediately following Michael’s talk. On the final day of the IMC, Rohan presented his poster tiled ‘Choroidal thickness changes after 1 week of nightly 0.025% atropine eye drops‘.

The IMC meeting is a biennial event, with the next IMC meeting scheduled to be held at the University of Houston, Texas, USA in September 2026.
