After arriving in Brisbane on 18th February 2023, Visiting German students, Jonathan Riecker and Dominik Schmidt, spent the next 13 weeks attending a selection of lectures and classes from QUT’s undergraduate and postgraduate vision science and optometry teaching programs. These classes complimented the vision studies already completed by Jonathan and Dominik who were in enrolled in the sixth semester of an ophthalmic optics/optometry bachelor’s degree at Aalen University. Both students had the opportunity to participate in formal and informal learning activities, tutorials, practicals, and other enriching educational opportunities. Jonathan and Dominik also participated in research activities conducted in the QUT Contact Lens and Visual Optics Laboratory during their visit.
On weekends, Jonathan and Dominik took every opportunity to visit new and exciting places not just in Brisbane, but on the coastal shores and inner hinterland too. They were truly passionate about gaining their scuba diving certificates and spent the required hours learning safe diving techniques so that they could dive on their own at the Great Barrier Reef in North Queensland during their stay.

Jonathan and Dominik have prepared a Blog which highlights their visit to QUT, along with many of the exciting places they saw during their time in Brisbane and Queensland. Visit Jonathan’s and Dominik’s Blog: Home | Jonathan and Dominik Down Under (jimdosite.com)
