Damien Fisher Receives Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award!

QUT HDR Student and CLVOL member, Damien Fisher, supervised by Associate Professor Stephen Vincent and Professor Michael Collins completed his QUT doctoral research studies on Physiological corneal changes associated with scleral contact lens wear in July 2021. Damien’s research examined the physiologic effects of scleral lenses on the cornea.

Damien attended his doctorate graduation at an official QUT Ceremony held at the Brisbane Exhibition and Convention Centre, on 23 October 2021. Damien’s wife, Sabrina a former QUT Masters of Optometry graduate was also in attendance at the ceremony.

In May 2022, Damien received official notification from the Chair of QUT Research Degrees Committee that his research thesis titled, ‘The Influence of Scleral Lens Parameters and Fitting Characteristics on Corneal Oedema Under Open and Closed Eye Conditions’ was highly regarded and that he would be the recipient of an Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award.

Damien continues to embrace new career research opportunities and furthering his research with scleral contact lenses. Damien will always remain an important and valued member of the Contact Lens and Visual Optics Laboratory.
