In May of 2021, Dr David Alonso-Caneiro organised the 3 day visit of Dr Samantha Lee from the Lions Eye Institute (LEI) and University of Western Australia, to the QUT Contact Lens and Visual Optics Laboratory (CLVOL) at Kelvin Grove, in Brisbane.
Dr Alonso-Caneiro first met Dr Lee in 2013 when she commenced her doctorate research studies at QUT, in Brisbane. After completing her PhD in early 2017, Dr Lee accepted a Postdoctoral Research Fellow post with the Genetics and Epidemiology research group, at the Lions Eye Institute (LEI), and relocated to Perth. Earlier this year, Dr Lee commenced work as a Senior Lecturer and Research Coordinator at the newly-established, Division of Optometry, University of Western Australia, whilst also maintaining her research interests and responsibilities at LEI.
During Dr Samantha Lee’s recent visit to CLVOL she delivered a thought-provoking seminar titled: Choroidal thickness and its associations and longitudinal change in young adulthood, as well as finding opportunity to present her research findings from the Raine Study, which investigated how atropine eye drops could reduce the rate of myopia progression in school-age children.
Dr Samantha Lee and Dr David Alonso-Caneiro are truly passionate about their respective research, and are enthusiastically committed to projects sponsored by the Lions Eye Institute.
