Project Title:
Improving Mental Health and Safety in the Construction Industry
Project Type:
Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Researcher Award Project (DE190100657)
Funding Body:
Australian Research Council
Project Timeframe:
2019-2022
Project Synopsis:
The suicide rate of Australian construction worker is 84% higher than non-construction workers due to the high psychosocial risks involved. The quantification of these psychosocial risks factors and their interdependencies will enable effective strategies be designed. However, such research has been lacking. This project aims to develop a Bayesian network model to analyse the interdependencies of psychosocial risk factors and evaluate it using agent-based modelling simulation. This novel research will transform the health and safety management of construction projects, improving mental health of the construction workforce, contributing to reducing suicides in the Australian construction industry.
