Blockchain and Non-Fungible Token (NFT) in Architecture

Project Title:

Blockchain and Non-Fungible Token (NFT) in Architecture

Project Type:

Research Consultancy

Funding Body:

Conrad Gargett

Project Timeframe:

2022-2026

Project Synopsis:

With funding from Conrad Gargett Architects, this consultancy project aims to conduct research into deploying Non-Fungible Token (NFT) and Blockchain to revolutionise architectural practice. Our industry partner Conrad Gargett Architects routinely produces 3D digital twin models for large clients such as hospitals, yet currently hands the models over to builders, clients and stakeholders such as facilities management firms free of charge. However, Conrad Gargett Architects wishes to gain control over the IP of these digital assets, that are rich with information, and to start extracting royalties out of them using Blockchain technology. This project undertakes research to help Conrad Gargett Architects to become the forefront of NFTs in architecture. This Stage 1 (pilot) research consultancy project leverages further grant seeking activities including: (a) A funding application to crypto foundation Algorand, and; (b) An ARC Linkage application. The project involves collaboration with Prof. Jason Potts, Director of RMIT Blockchain Innovation Hub, and A/Prof. Joseph Liu, Director of Monash University Blockchain Centre.
