Smart and Sustainable City Strategic Planning

Our team delivered smart and sustainable city strategic planning professional development training to local government officials in Brazil. The convergence of technology and the city is commonly referred to as the ‘smart city’. The smart city blueprint, especially when coupled with the sustainable development paradigm, is a potential remedy for the challenges that urbanisation creates in the age of global climate change, and is an enabler of a sustainable and liveable urban future. While many cities worldwide attempt to invest on increasing their city smartness, only a few succeeded. We offer professional training on the most appropriate approaches for local governments to strategically plan their smart and sustainable city transformation.

Responsible Urban Innovation with Artificial Intelligence

Our team delivered online training on urban artificial intelligences and what it means for local governments with a smart city agenda. Artificial intelligence (AI) is not only becoming an integral part of urban services, but also impacting and shaping the future of cities and societies. However, the current AI practice has shown that urban innovation without responsibility generates more problems than it solves. Especially, the absence of a deep understanding of the costs, benefits, risks and impacts of deploying government AI systems creates negative externalities and serious concerns in the society. We offer professional training on the most appropriate approaches for local governments to engage with AI to achieve responsible urban innovation.

Understanding e-Bike Ownership and Use and Developing e-Mobility Policy

The Queensland Cycle Strategy is the key document for cycling policy in Queensland. The strategy provides strategic direction and a policy framework for the implementation of cycling as a sustainable and safe transport mode throughout Queensland. Our cross-university academic team worked with the state government to understand opportunities to encourage infrequent riders of standard bicycles and people considering riding, to ride e-bikes. This activity supported the delivery of Queensland Cycling Action Plan 2020-2022, Action 5.1. We offer professional training on electric mobility in cities.
