Project Title:
Wind Sensitive Urban Planning and Design to Enable Sustainable Development
Project Type:
Research Consultancy
Funding Body:
Economic Development Queensland
Project Timeframe:
2022-2022
Project Synopsis:
Meeting the high energy demand through renewable energy generation and tackling the urban heat island phenomenon are among the leading issues faced by many cities. Cities of South East Queensland are not immune to these issues. While South East Queenslanders are taking advantage of solar energy generation through rooftop photovoltaic systems, it has limited contributions to addressing the urban heat island issue. Moreover, South East Queensland residents have not been adequately offered alternative renewable energy sources. Urban wind energy planning at the neighbourhood and city levels offers opportunities to address both renewable energy diversification and peak hours energy demand along with contribute to the alleviation of the urban heat island problem. This project develops a conceptual framework for wind sensitive urban planning and design research.
