Evaluation of two Relationships and Sexuality Education programs in Queensland schools

Relationships and Sexuality Education programs aim to address sexual health and wellbeing by providing opportunities to learn about the multiple dimensions of relationships and sexuality. Programs targeted at children in upper primary school (Years 4-6) involve topics related to child sexual abuse prevention, puberty, human reproduction, body image, media influences and gender norms. My doctoral study focuses on the evaluation of two Relationships and Sexuality Programs targeted at upper primary school-aged children. I propose using a convergent mixed methods design informed by realist evaluation. The study will engage with different program stakeholders to develop a better understanding of the contexts in which the programs are delivered; to conceptually refine the programs’ mechanisms; and assess program acceptability and outcomes.
