This PhD project is exploring the vision of First Nations children and the disparity of access to eye care services between First Nations and non-Indigenous children. This topic aims to reduce some of the barriers to accessing eye care for Indigenous children and therefore aid in reducing the disparity in rates of eye testing and spectacle correction that exists between First Nation and non-Indigenous children. The main research question driving this project is ‘What measures can be taken to ensure culturally appropriate eye care is available for all First Nations children, and therefore reduce the disparity between access to eye care?”. To achieve this objective the project is developing, validating and implementing a culturally appropriate paediatric visual acuity chart.
