Members of the Centre for Child and Family Studies work hard to elevate and support the lives of children and families. We offer a range of evidence-based learning, free or at low cost for educators, families and the community to engage in and help transform the lives of children and families.
Arts Boot Camp
The Arts Boot Camp, created in response to requests from arts teachers for planning time at the beginning of the school year, is a series of one-day workshops. The workshops are designed to build teacher’s capacity in the planning process of their Arts program rather than focussing on the design of a unit to implement.

RAMSR (Rhythm and Movement for Self-Regulation) is a program for young children that aims to support their attentional and emotional regulation skills, as well as mental flexibility, inhibition, and working memory (the executive functions). By the end of this 5 hour workshop, participants will be able to lead the full Rhythm & Movement for Self-Regulation (RAMSR) eight-week program (15-minute sessions daily), or adjust it and use it as they see fit for their setting.

RAMSR (Rhythm and Movement for Self-Regulation) is a program for young children that aims to support their attentional and emotional regulation skills, as well as mental flexibility, inhibition, and working memory (the executive functions). This course is a taster of the full RAMSR curriculum which you can access by taking the RAMSR module course, which includes a minimum of 8 weeks of RAMSR session plans including 24 RAMSR activities at a base level and more than 30 extension activities, 28 audio tracks, and 120-page RAMSR resource folder. The introductory course is not a pre-requisite for the full module course.

Feel empowered to protect your students by identifying and reporting signs of child abuse and neglect. This course will enable you to recognise the signs of child abuse and neglect, and learn how maltreatment impacts on children’s learning and development. It will also help you to understand your role as a reporter.

Become equipped with the right practices to support students impacted by trauma. This 4 week online module is designed for teaching staff and educational leaders who want to improve their professional practice and understand the impact of trauma and how to develop practices for students who have experienced it. It is also for health and social care workers with an interest in teaching children and adolescents affected by trauma.

Produce an action plan to use trauma-informed practices to support students, your colleagues and your school. n this Module Plus, you’ll complete an assessment based on your experiences or context that can be applied in your own school setting or workplace. Students who have lived through very difficult or traumatic life circumstances may present challenging behaviour at school and need help to self-regulate emotions and manage their relationships. In this assessment module, you will plan how to support a child or student in this situation to minimise the frequency of crisis events and ensure they are managed appropriately. On successful completion of the Module Plus, you’ll earn credit for a postgraduate unit (six credit points) that will be applied as advanced standing when you enrol in QUT’s Graduate Certificate in Education or Master of Education.

The Graduate Certificate in Education (Trauma-Aware Education) equips graduates to support learners in schools and early childhood settings who are living with the outcomes of complex developmental trauma. This course is the first of its kind in Australia and is designed to align with a growing national and global movement in trauma-aware education. If you are a school or early childhood educator, or other professional, you can deepen your knowledge and skills in trauma-aware education and your capacity to lead a trauma-aware response in a range of work settings.

This e-learning module is designed to help early childhood educators understand and use relational information literacy (RIL) processes to support young children’s learning as they engage in digital play. The e-learning videos and suite of resources introduce the Digital Play 3C Questioning Framework as a tool to develop young children’s RIL skills and provide real-world examples of the 3C Questioning Framework in action.
