Congratulations to Centre researchers, Dr Meegan Brown and Dr Lyra L’Estrange, for their Centre-funded project that investigated how teachers working in remote education settings in Australia can effectively guide students impacted by trauma. Teachers in remote communities are working with students who are exposed to trauma and disadvantage more often than students in metropolitan areas. Meegan and Lyra’s research identified that teachers are effective when they are skilled to be culturally aware and responsive, trained in trauma-informed practices, have support to ensure their own wellbeing, and access relevant ongoing professional learning.
