Cynthia Hicban is currently working towards collating children’s voices for a child-friendly version of 1General Comment 26.
In June 2022, the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child asked for children to contribute to General Comment No. 26 – Children’s Rights and the Environment with a special focus on climate change. This first round of consultation was a survey that focused on children 7-18-years old. The second round of consultation for younger children will be launched mid-November 2022 with submission mid-February 2023.
In anticipation of this dialogue, children’s voices advocates are eager to begin the process of recruiting individuals and organisations to begin listening…organisers from the United Nations are keen to create a digital gallery of submissions ready for the launch in mid-February 2023. Cynthia is seeking partnerships with educators passionate about children’s right to be heard, as well as children’s right to express their views on General Comment 26.
