Sana Tasnim

Project title

The Relationship Between Migraine and Thyroid Dysfunction

Supervisory Team

Principal Supervisor: Professor Dale Nyholt
Associate Supervisor(s): Associate Professor Divya Mehta

Project description

Sana’s PhD study aims to integrate genome wide DNA sequence variation (genetic risk variants) across large powerful studies of migraine, hypothyroidism and thyroid hormone levels (thyroid stimulating hormone [TSH], free thyroxine [fT4]) to elucidate the potential role of thyroid hormones in migraine pathophysiology. Findings from this study will result in a better apprehension of the aetiology and pathophysiology that occurs in migraine, hypothyroidism and thyroid hormones. It will provide an opportunity to develop biomarker profiles to identify migraine patients who are most likely to benefit from thyroid hormone therapy.
