Dr Karsten Schrobback is a research fellow of the Cancer & Aging Research Program at the Translational Research Institute (TRI), Brisbane. He is also lecturer and course coordinator at the School of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Health. Dr Schrobback is a highly skilled researcher in cartilage and bone biology and the use of tissue-specific stem cells for orthopaedic applications as a primary focus. He was awarded a PhD from QUT in 2010 for his work in cartilage tissue engineering and was postdoctoral fellow  at the Christchurch Regenerative Medicine and Tissue Engineering (CReaTE) Group of Professor Tim Woodfield at the University of Otago, New Zealand and the Cartilage Regeneration Laboratory of AProf Travis Klein at QUT. He is an expert in the development and characterization of preclinical models for tissue engineering applications as well as the study of critical factors of cellular functions in musculoskeletal tissues. An additional direction of his research is to investigate the influence of DNA repair mechanism in adult stem cell behavior and aging.
