Dr Jasmine Connell is an early career researcher working within the Genomics Research Centre as a Research Fellow. With a background in forensic genetics, her research interests are around the use of genetics and genomics to answer questions related to forensic science and human health. Dr Connell’s PhD research focused on multigenerational mitochondrial genome analysis through Next Generation Sequencing, providing one of the first pedigree derived mutation rates for the entire mitochondrial genome. She also established the first WWI/WWII era Australian mitochondrial DNA control region haplotype frequency database, which has assisted in the identification of historical military remains. Dr Connell’s current work extends on her PhD research by developing next generation DNA technologies for identifying fallen Australian soldiers.
