Project title
Identification of novel causative genetic and epigenetic factors in migraine
Supervisory Team
Principal Supervisor: Professor Lyn Griffiths
Associate Supervisor: Associate Professor Larisa Haupt, Dr Heidi Sutherland
Project description
Charlene’s project involves the use of Epigenetic, Whole Exome and Mitochondrial Sequencing to identify novel genetic variants which cause Migraine. In addition to this, she is developing CRISPR models in neuronal cell lines to further test these variants.
Short Biography
After graduating from QUT with a first-class honours in Biomedical Sciences, Charlene started working with the GRC on a voluntary basis in an effort to expand on her existing skill set of cell and molecular biology. After working within the GRC, Charlene successfully enrolled as a PhD candidate and was confirmed in March 2020. In addition to her PhD project she is a member of our diagnostics team in which she is tasked with the administrative processes and sample processing. Charlene has also worked as a sessional academic for first year Biomedical Science Cell and Molecular Biology classes.
