Alex Duff

PhD Candidate

Project title

A substrate- and structure-guided approach to designing inhibitors of Kallikrein-8

Supervisory Team

Principal Supervisor: Professor Jonathan Harris
Associate Supervisor: Associate Professor Larisa Haupt

Project description

Alex’s project investigates the design and transcriptomic effects of peptide and protein-based serine protease inhibitors for treating Alzheimer’s Disease. The sequential development of selective and potent inhibitors of Kallikrein 8 will allow for a thorough investigation into the enzyme’s role in the development of Alzheimer’s Disease, and these inhibitors will serve as the backbone of a new generation of disease modifying therapies to treat Alzheimer’s Disease.

Short Biography

Alex is a PhD candidate with the Molecular Simulation group and the Genomics Research Centre developing a series of peptide and protein-based inhibitors of the human protease Kallikrein 8.
