On Wednesday 22nd June, CGPH member Dr Joanne Voisey from the Faculty of Health, School of Biomedical Sciences visited Murgon State High School as part of her STEM Professionals in Schools’ partnership.
Joanne has been working with Erica Marshall, the Head of Department for Science and Maths at Murgon State High to engage rural and Indigenous students with science. This partnership also led to QUT equity funding for the senior students to attend Heron Island as part of Embedding Indigenous Perspectives/Learning on Country Science program. QUT equity and the widening participation program, led by Sara Sheather, organised the QUT extreme science van to deliver hands-on science workshops to the junior students and career pathway planning for the senior students. Student ambassadors from the Oodgeroo unit provided real life experiences of their learning journeys.
We look forward to welcoming Erica and the students from Murgon State High when they visit QUT later in the year.
