First Nations Justice – Briefing Papers

First Nations justice is concerned with recognition and respect for the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and addressing the systematic, entrenched and pervasive inequalities that burden First Nations people and communities and which impact life outcomes, wellbeing and opportunities.

First Nations justice acknowledges historical injustices, including dispossession, physical ill-treatment, social disruption, and economic exploitation, that these communities have faced since colonisation, and seeks to rectify these injustices, advocating for the right to representation, participation in decisions that affect them, and the full realisation of their rights and aspirations.
