Domestic & Gender Based Violence – Briefing Papers

Domestic and gender-based violence is concerned with the societal, legal, and institutional responses to such violence, with the aim of protecting victims and holding perpetrators accountable. It involves ensuring victims have access to legal remedies and support services, and that their rights are upheld throughout the justice process including the right to safety, to be heard, and to fair treatment.

Justice in this context also involves addressing the underlying societal norms and structures that contribute to domestic and gender-based violence, such as gender inequality and discrimination.
