Social-purpose enterprise

The leading edge in philanthropy, social enterprise, and nonprofit action.

Sustainability and non-monetary objectives are increasingly determining the strategic direction of enterprises. Nonprofit organisations, other hybrid organisations, and philanthropic foundations will equally have to boost their capabilities to deliver to new, explicitly articulated purposes in a connected, global world.

The Australian Centre for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies (ACPNS) is multi-disciplinary and covers five areas, (1) nonprofit accountability and accounting, (2) philanthropy, fundraising and nonprofit marketing, (3) nonprofit governance, management, leadership, and culture, (4) social enterprise, innovation and business ethics, and (5) an emergent theme of faith-based charities which accounts one quarter of all charities. Sustainability and non-monetary objectives are increasingly determining the strategic direction of enterprises, but the related body of knowledge is far less developed than the dominating for-profit approaches. Nonprofit organisations, philanthropic foundations and social enterprises will equally have to boost their capabilities to deliver to their promise in a connected, global world. ACPNS’ strong sector links and real-world teaching means ACPNS stays at the leading edge of knowledge, providing our students with a teaching and research environment that is up-to-date and valuable to people interested in success in philanthropy, social enterprise and nonprofit action.
