Paradoxes in complex contexts – future research agenda presentation by A/Prof Anna Wiewiora

Complex contexts, such as megaprojects, COVID-19 and climate change impact broader society, have long term consequences, and are subject to extreme risks. Complex contexts bring about tensions, which need identifying and addressing. These tensions cannot be easily resolved by either/or approaches. The seminar will introduce the concept of paradox and discuss examples of paradoxical tensions in megaprojects, by drawing on the findings from the recent study. The study used systematic literature review to identify and catalogue paradoxical tensions in megaprojects and approaches to manage them. The seminar will also explore examples of paradoxes in complex contexts that impact organisations and a broader society and discuss possible future research directions.
