Congratulations to Centre member, Prof Kim Johnston whose research project ‘Community experiences of the 2022 SE Australian Floods’ won the EMPA Australia Award for Excellence in Emergency Communications in the research category on Wednesday 5th June.
Funded by Natural Hazards Research Australia the project has gained important insights into how people experienced flooding in Queensland, and NSW, during 2022/23 via personal stories of people who were impacted or threatened by these floods.
The project, led by A/Prof Mel Taylor (MCQ) and A/Prof Fiona Miller (MCQ) for NSW, and Prof Kim Johnston, A/Prof Anne Lane and Dr Barbara Ryan (USQ) for QLD, was supported by the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services and NSW State Emergency Service.
