Disability and meaningful work participation

Project overview

A new project supporting social enterprises in Queensland to employ people with disability is the focus of a research grant recently awarded to QUT.<
The 6-month project is led by CDWI Researcher Dr Jannine Williams, who has been studying socially responsible work which is explored through a concern for the meaning and experiences of work, and how work practices can be developed to become inclusive. The project is co-led by Dr Ruth Knight, QUT.

The research aims to equip employers with the skills and knowledge required to increase employment opportunities for people with disability, contributing to advancing employment equity and to increase talent in the social enterprise ecosystem in Queensland.

The research team will be engaging with people with disability and social enterprise managers and leaders to explore social enterprise employment practices and experiences to develop a practical toolkit for employers. The toolkit will be made freely available to all organisations.

The research team is inviting social enterprise employers and people with disability to participate and share their views via an online survey, interviews and workshops.

Who can participate?

We would like to hear from:

  • People with disability who have worked in or are currently working in a social enterprise in Queensland in paid employment or who aspire to do so through an interview, survey or workshop.
  • Social enterprise managers and leaders in social enterprises that employ people with disability through a survey or workshop.

How do I participate?

To participate in the research please click on the relevant link below. You are welcome to participate in more than one aspect of the study. For example, if you are a manager or leader with disability in a social enterprise you are welcome to complete both the survey for people with disability and the one for managers. Or you may want to participate in both a workshop and an interview.

Will this be accessible?

You can participate in lots of different ways:

  • Interviews and workshops can take place in person or online. We will ask you to tell us about your access requirements if you participate in an interview or workshop.
  • Each of the surveys can be completed online.
  • If you prefer to complete the survey offline you can upload your response as word document or audio or video response. To do so, please download the word version of the survey and then click on the appropriate survey link to upload your response.

The images below link directly to each of the online surveys, and so does the text within each box.
