Middle Leaders

The project

Phase II of the Leading Inclusive Education Reform project expanded on the success of Phase I by engaging middle leaders in the Department of Education Central Queensland Region. Middle leaders included Deputy Principals, Heads of Department, Heads of Curriculum, Heads of Inclusive Education, speech pathologists, and other related role holders, who play an important part in leading implementation of inclusive education in their contexts.

Aims

The two aims for Phase II of the project were to:

  • design and facilitate a program of professional learning for middle leaders to improve their knowledge of and capability to lead systemic inclusive education reform, and
  • investigate whether the program of learning leads to changes in understanding of and beliefs about genuine inclusion for middle leaders.

Research questions

This research addresses one overarching research question:

What changes in knowledge, beliefs, and understanding are achieved when middle leaders engage in a program of learning focused on inclusion and inclusive school leadership?
