Team CDE – Ritwik Swain

Ritwik is a Psychology PhD Student at the Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety Queensland (CARRS-Q). He joined the CDE team through a program where PhD students can join commercial research projects for about three months, to enrich their PhD journey and learn new skills. He is currently working with us on a research project with Queensland Government.

What is your research focus?

I am researching a new Visual Interface for Self-Driving Cars that displays the intentions of car to the passengers. More broadly, I like to solve problems by trying to understand the deeper motivations and behaviour of humans.

What excites you most about the digital economy?

I hope that the digital economy allows us to achieve more while also allowing individuals to have more leisure time.

Are you an optimist or pessimist about the future?

The worst-case scenario is that we all die, and given that we know that we will die eventually anyway, I am quite optimistic about the future ?

Finish this sentence: In 2050, there will be…

A majority of cars that are electric and at least SAE Level 2 Automation.

And here’s Ritwik driving (or trying to drive) a car that is off the charts for SAE Automation Levels!
