Team CDE – Carola Funke

Carola Funke is a PhD Student within the Centre for the Digital Economy and the Centre for Future Enterprise. Supervised by Professor Michael Rosemann, Dr Paula Dootson and Professor Marek Kowalkiewicz, Carola’s research explores customer trust in the digital age. Find out what keeps her excited about her work!

What is your research focus?

My research focuses on customer trust, which has become a key concern for organisations due to the emergence of new business models and recent incidents of trust breaches.  As this development also comes with new business opportunities, my research aims at creating a more disciplined approach towards the management of trust. This includes the profiling of the trust exposure of an organisation, strategic opportunities to proactively utilise customer trust, leading potentially to an entire trust strategy.

What excites you most about the digital economy?

That it is fuelled by creativity, I’m especially fascinated by emerging business models that we wouldn’t have thought of even 10 years ago.

Are you an optimist or pessimist about the future?

Always optimistic, but not naïve. I think, changes due to technological advancement and upcoming opportunities will have their place, though this is a balancing act between convenience and trust.

Finish this sentence: In 2050, there will be…

In 2050, there will be a world that is divided into digital advocates and opponents and trust will be the key asset and currency of that time.
