The current health approach for diagnosing metabolic syndrome (MetS) is based upon random health checks by a healthcare
provider which may have been triggered by symptoms that are either related or unrelated to MetS.
Many murine (mouse) studies have investigated the role of the gut microbiome in relation to obesity and insulin resistance, however, very limited work has been done on looking at the relationship between the gut microbiome and MetS.
This project aims to investigate the differences in the microbiome and metabolome of individuals with and without MetS.
Differences between these groups may further our understanding of disease development and identify biomarkers of diagnostic and prognostic significance.
