Amal is expertised in design and manufacturing engineering. His current research interests are in nanotechnology, and microfluidics. He obtained his PhD from QUT, and from University of Moratuwa (Sri Lanka) , he obtained his MEng in manufacturing engineering and BSc hons in mechanical engineering.
Amal served as lecturer in design and manufacturing at University of Moratuwa (Sri Lanka) from 2008 to 2022.During this time, he involved in practising engineering in addition to his teaching and research at UoM by providing services to the industry. During his tenure at UoM, Amal was involved in teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate courses. In addition to lecturing, he supervised BSc hon's and masters research projects. He had been researching on cutting fluid applications in metal cutting during this time.
Amal joined QUT in 2022 as a post-doctoral fellow, and his current research is on developing bactericidal nanostructured surfaces.
