Before joining QUT for a Joint PhD in cooperation with the Institute of Medical Biotechnoloy at the Friedrich-Alexander-University (FAU) Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany, Melanie studied Bioystems Engineering (B. Sc.) at Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg and Life Science Engineering (M. Sc.) at the FAU Germany. During her Bachelors degree Melanie did a research thesis within the immunology studying cold shock proteins; in her master thesis she shifted her focus on low-cost and open-source 3D bioprinting.
